| The Anencephalic Fetus BY DR. JAD JAMAL KHALAF I realize that you are very worried about your baby. This must be a very difficult situation to experience. Let us take a look at what the Bible says about life. First of all Psalm 139:14-17 talks about God knowing the baby from the time of conception. Your baby is precious in the eyes of God. God created your baby that you are carrying. God has precious thoughts toward your baby. The very hands that created the world are the same hands that created your baby. That is so awesome to think about. Your baby is wonderfully and fearfully made. There is no other baby like your baby in the entire world. Your baby is more than just a group of cells within you. Your baby is your very own baby that has your blood running through it. Life is precious in the eyes of God. Life is so precious that He says that we are not to murder. Now I know that you are pondering within you whether or not your baby is really a living, breathing human being with human status. I personally believe that your baby has every right to live and to be brought into this world. The doctors seem to think that your baby will probably not live too long after being brought into this world. You and your husband have been given the awesome privilege to make this baby. To you this baby will always be remembered. The Lord gives us children as a gift from Him. Sometimes, God decides that it is best for the little baby to be taken away to heaven. Job 1:21 talks about how he came out of his mother’s body naked and how he will die naked also. That verse also talks about how God gives and how God also takes away. That is going to be hard to think about and grasp because you want your precious little baby to not be taken away. When God does take away your little one, then you too can say as Job said, “Blessed be the name of the Lord.” So your baby is not merely a group of cells without any human status but a baby that is precious in the sight of Almighty God the Father. Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 talks about a time to every purpose. God says that there is a time to be born and that there is also a time to die. I know that the doctors are probably advising you to abort your baby. They are probably telling you that is the best decision to make, from a medical point of view. I would like to tell you that from a Biblical point of view you should not abort your baby. As a Christian, I firmly believe that every baby has a right not to die by abortion. There will be a time of weeping and mourning for the loss of your baby. On the other hand, your baby will be in Heaven with Jesus. That is comforting enough to encourage you and your husband to have a time of happiness and joy. During this very difficult time of your life, God is right here with you. He will walk every step of the way. Hebrews 13:5 talks about how God will never leave you and neither will He forsake you. God is your Heavenly Father. He watches over and comforts His children. The Lord might bless you with more children in the future. Till then, you and your wife will have time to grow closer to the Lord, to each other, and to your family. You and your husband have to make the final decision. I can only help you in your decision making. Your child could live a day, a week, or even a month but enjoy the time that God does give you with your baby. Life is short but God gives us the opportunity to enjoy life with our loved ones. Remember that everything works for the good of those that love the Lord. Friend, as tough as it may be for you to think about losing your child remember that you still have your husband and the rest of your family to enjoy life with. Trust in God and He will direct your steps and your pathway. Psalm 23 is one of the most beautiful Psalms to sit down, read, and reflect on. I pray that you will trust God and go ahead and have your baby. |
