| Prayer Before Football Games? BY DR. JAD JAMAL KHALAF Young people need to take a stand for Jesus Christ. It is sad to see our world in the shape that it is in. Crime, poverty, drugs, sex outside of marriage, and a host of other sinful things plague our society. It is time that Christians take a stand and not compromise. I would encourage the young people to take stands at their high school. Starting Bible Clubs, holding prayer meetings, and even encourage them to invite people to church. Christian young people and adults need to stand up and say that they are not ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. No matter what society says, Christians can make a difference in present day society. As youth minister to Marian Ward and other Christian young people, I would have encouraged them to pray at graduation and at football games. I would tell them that they have every right to stand up for what they believe in. At the same time, I would remind the Christian students to remain bold and not worry about others making fun of them. I would have a time of prayer with the young people who were willing to take their campus back for Christ. Christian young people today need Christian adults to encourage and support them. I would remind them of Daniel in the lion’s den, of the three men thrown into the fiery furnace, of Paul being persecuted, of Stephen being stoned, and of others in the Bible who suffered for taking stands for Christ. The parents would be encouraged to attend, with their young person, a special Bible study that I would arrange for several weeks. In the special Bible study times I would teach how to share Christ, how to encourage other Christians at school, how to start Bible clubs on campuses, and other things that would be helpful. God must always be first in a Christian’s life. When He is, then He will give strength to the weary, rest to the restless, and courage to the courage less. Praying is a right that Christians have. The Christian young people need to know the importance of prayer, Bible study, and sharing Christ. Above all, I would ask God to give me wisdom and knowledge to always lead the young people to be more like Christ. God is the foundation on which lives are built and if there lives are built on God, then nothing can ever knock them down. The Bible says the for me to live is Christ and that if I was to die then that would only be gain for me. A Christian’s prayer should always consist of being available to go wherever and to whoever the Lord leads. Lord, here am I and please send me. |
