Frustrated Infertile Couple

BY DR. JAD JAMAL KHALAF

Life is a precious gift from God.  Birth control pills should have never been used in the first
place.  The past is past and let us leave it at that.  If God meant for the couple to have a baby the
normal way then He would have provided.  There is still no guarantee that God cannot still work a
miracle.  God is the same God that allowed Abraham and Sarah to conceive in their old age.
Though, I cannot tell you if God will allow you to have a child of your own.  Certainly one should
never rule out the possibility.

With that having been said, let us move on to the next issue that you guys are facing.  Should
you or should you not attempt conception through AID?  Having someone else’s sperm or egg is
not a good thing to do.  If you were to go this route, then I believe that this would be out of God’s
will.  God intended for a husband and a wife to come together and have their own child, not
someone else’s.  The only aid that you need is God’s aid and help in this situation.  I know that
having a child of your own is important to a husband and wife.  Conception through AID is just not
the way to go.

I would also suggest that ethically speaking, having a child by any other way in which God
intended is ethically and morally wrong.  Much technology exist in today’s society that just blows
me away.  Basically, you could almost pick the kind of baby you want to have through an unnatural
way.  It is quite scary because the doctors, in some sense, are playing God.  I would counsel you
to forget having a child by any other way than the natural way.  I would also like to suggest that
adopting a child is an option you could choose.  This route, to my knowledge, has already been
taken.  There were difficulties in finding the age group that you wanted to have.  You could go
back and rethink the age of the child you would like to adopt.  Older children would be thrilled to
have a family in which they could have a mom and a dad.  Think of all of the children that are
found in the orphanages.  That is just a thought to think about.

Getting back to feeling the pain of not having your own child.  Words do hurt, especially when
they come from friends.  The relationship between you two seems to be suffering as a result of
this situation.  Both of you need to enjoy the time that God has given you to spend it with one
another.  Do not let your relationship fall apart due to the fact that God might not want you to
have a child now.  If you trust God with your life, then you should also trust Him in everything you
do.  Let us pray that God would comfort you two during this trying time.
